Bob was born on September 29, 1951 in Pasadena, California. But Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he went to high school, was his hometown. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1973 with a degree in Philosophy while pursuing classical guitar training. He travelled and worked extensively in France and Germany. In Munich he studied German to be able to read the German Philosophers in the original. He met his wife Brigitte in 1979 there and in his own words this was when he finally found direction in his life. He loved intellectual life and was an eternal student in a good way.

After earning his MA in German from Johns Hopkins University, he began working at Towson University under the mentorship of Student Affairs Vice President Dorothy Siegel. He worked in various positions at Towson and retired at 70 as Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management in 2021. He was nicknamed the “provost-wisperer.” Bob was remembered as being pragmatic, well informed and unassuming. One of his colleagues remembered that she sat in meetings with Bob, where he ran circles around literally everyone and they had no idea he’d just outsmarted them to reach the best possibly outcome for Towson and particularly its students.

Bob studied Chess and played competitively, ran the Marine Corps Marathon, played golf, loved the theater and eventually discovered his love for amateur ballroom dancing. He and his wife went all over the country with tail suit and ballgown in tow to compete. During the last 6 years he devoted himself to learn Italian. He loved Italy, its landscapes and cities, its museums, and its food. Bob never met an ice cream cone he did not like.

Bob showed up for and loved his family. He was the perfect big brother and uncle - always willing to help, step in, and give advice with a dose of reality. One of his sisters wrote that he was a constant presence in her life, the man who showed her that there were good men out there. You could always count on him to lift the mood and spirits of everyone.

Bob is survived by his wife Brigitte, his sisters Mary (Tom), Sandra (Aaron), and Dominique (Jean-Luc), and his nieces and nephews Adam (Rebecca), Rachel (Ned), Kyle, Matthieu (Alina), Melanie, Olivia, Eva, Lily, Bella, James, Major, Henry.

Bob passed away at home in his sleep on September 4th; he wanted his ashes to be scattered into the winds in the hills near Santa Fe.
