Roseanne
Mergler
d. Dec 27, 2025
Roseanne (née DeVita) Mergler, of Baltimore, Maryland, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the age of 87. She was the beloved wife of the late George J. Mergler, who preceded her in death in 2017; cherished mother of Karen Brackin and her husband Keith, Jack Hudson and his wife Denise, and Mark Hudson; proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; dear sister of Michael DeVita and his partner Chris Pawlowski and Sandy Hare. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Roseanne was a woman defined by dedication, strength, and an unmatched work ethic. She spent 23 years as a manager for High's convenience stores, followed by 27 years as a magazine merchandiser for Maryland News Service and others. No matter the role, Roseanne gave her all—reliable, hardworking, and proud of a job well done. Those who knew her understood that when Roseanne committed to something, she gave it her very best.
When she wasn't working, Roseanne was an avid reader who could often be found with a book in hand—sometimes two or three in a single week. Reading was one of her great joys, offering both comfort and adventure. Alongside the love of her life, her husband George, she also loved swimming at the Wilson Point Men's Club, where she spent many happy hours in the water.
Roseanne also loved music, especially the timeless sounds of Elvis Presley and the soulful rhythms of Motown. Music filled her home and her heart, often setting the backdrop for everyday moments and family gatherings. That same joy carried into her travels. Roseanne especially loved Siesta Key and Myrtle Beach, places that held a special place in her heart and were often revisited with joy. She absolutely adored Mickey Mouse and was delighted by her collection of Mickey memorabilia. George and Roseanne were truly inseparable, sharing countless memories on cruise ships and on trips to Las Vegas, Canada, New York, and everywhere in between. Whether close to home or far away, they experienced life side by side.
At home, Roseanne ruled the kitchen with heart and skill. She was a fabulous cook, lovingly known for her legendary meatballs, mashed potatoes, turkey dressing, stuffed pork chops, and her famous homemade spaghetti soup. Her food wasn't just delicious—it was how she showed love.
Nowhere was that more evident than during the holidays. Roseanne's Christmas gatherings were legendary, filled with incredible food, laughter, and joyful memories that brought the entire family together year after year. The house was alive with conversation, music, and the unmistakable aroma of her cooking—especially those beloved meatballs that became a holiday tradition of their own. Those Christmases weren't just celebrations; they were moments that family members will carry with them forever.
Roseanne also possessed a wicked sense of humor and a laugh that was utterly contagious. She was a stealthy card shark, especially during games of Crazy Eights, where the rules were known to change mid-game—making victory nearly impossible and laughter inevitable. Pitch and poker were equally competitive and entertaining, especially with the playful banter between George and Roseanne over their "creative" poker hands, which never failed to leave everyone smiling.
She had a smile that could light up a room. Quiet and reserved upon first meeting, Roseanne revealed a deeply loyal and loving heart once you truly knew her. Once you were hers, you were family for life.
