On December 30, 2021, Sarah Katherine "Kay" Young age 94, passed away at Carroll Lutheran Village, in Westminster, Maryland.
Kay was born July 15, 1927, at Island Creek, Prince Frederick County and was the eldest daughter of Murray and Gladys (nee King) Doherty.
Kay had a passion and real talent for knitting and crocheting. She loved to travel and visited Florida frequently to see her grandson and his family. She even got to travel to Montana to visit her niece Elaine Tucker and her family.
Kay was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and spent the last 60 plus years as a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Lutherville.
Kay worked for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company with 38 years of service when she retired. She retired early to spend more time caring for her husband George who had been diagnosed with Huntington's disease and caring for her elderly mother Gladys at the same time.
Kay was the beloved wife of the late George Denwood Young, Jr.; devoted mother of Bonnie Carol Ebaugh and her husband John; proud grandmother of L. Paul Ebaugh and his wife Kathie and Andrew C. Ebaugh; cherished great grandmother of Brenden P. Ebaugh; loving aunt of Jo Ruth Manson and her husband Richard, Charles and Donald Cox, Robert and Linda Doherty, and Christopher Manson and his wife Vanessa, sister-in-law of Al Ryan, Sr. Kay also leaves to cherish her memory many friends especially the ladies of the Esther Circle/Ladies Fellowship and friends from Carroll Lutheran Village. She is preceded in death by her sister Virginia Arbogast, her brother Robert Doherty, and her best buddy Gloria Pearce, who she met as a young lady working for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company.
The family will receive friends at the family-owned Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center, P.A., 2325 York Road, Timonium, MD 21093 on Monday, January 10, 2022, from 6-8 PM. A Graveside Service will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park, 2724 Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784 on Tuesday, January 11 beginning at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, please remember Kay with memorial contributions to BridgingLife, 200 Memorial Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
