Shannon
Sweeney
d. Jun 27, 2025
Shannon Patrick Sweeney, age 53, of Baldwin, Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 27th, 2025 at his home surrounded by his wife and three kids.
Shannon was born June 21st 1972 in Baltimore, Maryland to Martha Ann Sweeney and Wade Stanley Sweeney. He graduated from Westminster High School in 1990 and started working right away. He's had a couple different jobs over the years, like working on his family's dairy farm and doing automotive accessories, but has mainly stuck with his true passion, construction and carpentry. He started his own contracting company and then in 2010 he partnered with his father-in-law and they developed Carroll Manor Construction. He met the love of his life, Amy, in 1990 while helping build her sister and brother-in law's (Desi and Pete) deck with Johnny. He started and ended his life with Amy doing what he loved, building something. They fell for each other right away and their relationship grew from there. They got married on October 1st, 1997. They welcomed their first child Sylvia Elise the same year, then followed by Gavin Joshua in 2001 and Liam Patrick in 2002. They moved to Baltimore County in 2003 and continued to have an ideal suburban life.
Shannon was extremely devoted to his family. His favorite thing in life was being a husband and father. He was such a supportive father never missing a dance recital, lacrosse game, school event, and most importantly he instilled in his kids a strong love for Jehovah God, always with a big smile on his face. He was the same way with his wife, always supporting every project she wanted done around the house, no matter how challenging it would be to do. They did countless projects together and took great pride in creating a house that was a home for their family and friends to love. He just wanted to see her happy and see the smile on her face when it was done. He was such a helpful and giving person. He would drop anything to help his family, friends, and people in the community. One of Shannon's best known qualities was his willingness to do for others.
Shannon had a love for nature and the outdoors and he instilled that in his children. He enjoyed mountain biking and competed in 24 hour bike races. He loved being anywhere on the water, but his favorite place was the beach. He would take his family to Outer Banks every year with a group of his best friends. It was always a priority to him and Amy to take their family on a vacation every year and have time together, some of the most memorable were Disney, Bimini, and "the condo" in Ft. Lauderdale. He also loved animals, always having dogs once he and Amy got married, along with cats, lizards, and fish, their house was known as "the rescue". He never missed an Orioles or Ravens game whether it was on TV or in person. He also enjoyed watching lacrosse and rugby with his boys. Shannon was always the life of the party. He loved having his house as the social hub and having all his loved ones over. Anyone who has been to the Sweeney house knows that in the summer you were going to be hanging out in the outdoor kitchen and Shannon was gonna fire up the pizza oven and play some "baggo" in the backyard. He also always had music playing in the house no matter what was happening. You could always count on Shannon to have a good playlist ranging from reggae to 90's alternative to rockabilly ready to go and hyped to go to a concert with you in a heartbeat. He rarely left the house without a speaker and a cooler in the back of his car. He tried to stay so positive even after getting sick. Even if he was having a bad day he always made sure to ask you how you were when you walked in. It just showed how much of a caring person he was. He loved and touched so many people, he was a father figure to so many others than just his three kids.
Most importantly Shannon loved our God, Jehovah. He dedicated his life to Him on April 2nd, 1988. He was very influenced by his mom's spirituality and resilience. He was a great spiritual head for his family, making sure that they knew Jehovah and had Him in their hearts. He tried to assist on as many Kingdom Hall builds, renovations and clean ups as he could. He always wanted to help, bringing any and all of his perfectly maintained tools that might be needed. His deep faith and hope for the future is what helped him endure his final trial in life. (Revelation 21:3,4; John 5:28).
Shannon is survived by his wife, Amy Sweeney; his kids, Sylvia Sweeney Gilliland and her husband Chase, Gavin Sweeney, and Liam Sweeney and his fiancé Natalia Ross; his mother, Martha Sweeney; his father, Wade Sweeney; his sister, Jill Sweeney; his half sister, Kelly Sweeney along with aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and all those who called him "Pop Shan".
