Obituary

Dr. Sherry Higginbotham

Dr. Sherry Higginbotham, born April 19, 1968, in Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor.

Sherry was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, friend, and respected optometrist who dedicated more than 25 years to caring for patients in her community. Throughout her career, she combined clinical excellence with genuine compassion, earning the trust and admiration of countless patients and colleagues. She was a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and took great pride in helping others preserve and improve their vision.

Over the course of her career, Sherry cared for generations of families, building lasting relationships with patients who came to know her not only as their optometrist, but as a trusted friend and compassionate caregiver. The impact she made extended far beyond the exam room, touching thousands of lives throughout the community she so faithfully served.

While Sherry was passionate about her profession, her greatest joy in life was her family. She was the beloved wife of Curtis, with whom she shared 27 wonderful years of marriage, and a proud and devoted mother to her children, John and Hillary. She treasured every opportunity to support them in their pursuits and especially enjoyed traveling across the country to attend soccer tournaments, games, and events. Whether the trip was near or far, she never missed an opportunity to cheer them on and create lasting family memories.

Sherry also found joy in reading, relaxing at the beach, and exploring new places through travel. She embraced life’s adventures with enthusiasm and curiosity, finding happiness in both the destinations she visited and the people with whom she shared those experiences.

She is survived by her loving husband, Curtis; her children, John and Hillary; her mother, Judith Archer; her mother-in-law, Jackie Grieveson; and many other family members, friends, colleagues, and patients whose lives were enriched by her kindness, generosity, and caring spirit.

Those who knew Sherry will remember her for her warmth, strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those she loved. Her ability to make others feel welcomed, valued, and cared for was a gift that touched countless lives. Her legacy lives on not only through the family she cherished and the patients she served, but also through the many friendships and relationships she nurtured throughout her life.

Though she will be deeply missed, Sherry’s family takes comfort in the memories they shared and the lasting impact she made on so many people. Her life was a testament to love, service, resilience, and grace.

Her greatest legacy is the love she shared with her family, the care she provided to her patients, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness.
