Steve Scoville passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, at the age of 85.

Steve was the beloved husband of Dorothy, who preceded him in death. Together they shared 60 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, friendship, hard work, and unwavering devotion to one another.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Debbie and her husband, Charlie, and Stephanie and her husband, Richard; his grandson, Connor, and his wife, Karina; and his beloved sister, Linda. He was predeceased by four siblings. He is also survived by many extended family members, friends, teammates, and colleagues whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Steve was born and raised in Prince George's County, where he became the county's first police cadet. He later dedicated nearly 40 years of service to the federal government, forming lifelong friendships along the way.

Steve's greatest joy was his family. He loved sharing his passion for sports with his daughters and spent many years coaching youth athletics. He proudly supported his daughters throughout their youth sports experiences and their high school and college athletic careers. He also enjoyed watching his grandson play the sport he loved most: ice hockey.

A devoted sports fan, Steve rarely missed an opportunity to watch the Baltimore Orioles or the Washington Capitals. He celebrated alongside fellow fans when the Capitals captured their long-awaited Stanley Cup championship in 2018.

His love of hockey extended well beyond the stands. Steve played regularly at Laurel Ice Gardens well into his early seventies and was proud to be a longtime member of the Gerihatricks hockey team.

Steve's love of Corvettes brought him great joy throughout the years. As a proud member of the Freestate Corvette Club, he enjoyed showing his car, collecting trophies, and building lasting friendships. He especially looked forward to annual trips to Corvettes at Carlisle with family. He was always happy to talk cars with anyone willing to listen, and he never missed an opportunity to wash a car.

Above all else, Steve was a family man. Humble, kind, loyal, and honest, he lived with integrity and treated others with respect. He was known for his quick wit, easy smile, and ability to enjoy chocolate ice cream no matter the time of day.

The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers and staff at Gilchrist and Allview Retreat for providing Steve with compassion, care, respect and love during his journey.

No game was too far, no rink too cold, no drive too long, and no sacrifice too great when it came to the people Steve loved. He would want his memory to be celebrated by showing kindness to others, enjoying life's simple pleasures (especially ice cream), and spending time with family and friends.
