Sue Helen
Fitzsimmons
d. Feb 21, 2023
Sue Helen Romesberg Fitzsimmons,76, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2023. She was born in Rockwood, PA on May 15, 1946 to Wilbur George and Doris Enos Romesberg. She graduated from Rockwood Area High School in Rockwood, PA where she was a member of several Liberal Arts organizations and clubs. She then graduated from Shippensburg State College in 1967 where she received her bachelor's degree in secondary education.
Sue is survived by her children Christian (and his wife Antoinette) of Astoria, NY and Justin (and his wife Kelly) of Parkville, MD. Sue adored being a grandmother and appreciated the vivacious and contagious energy of her grandchildren Aidan (18), Mackenzie (15), Landon (7), and Abagail (4). She leaves behind dear friends and family from her workplace, neighborhood, and church. She was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Doris, her brother George, and her husband John.
Sue began her career as an English teacher for a few years with Baltimore City Schools. After teaching, she began work as a Social Worker with Baltimore City Social Services and eventually took a position as a Public Information Officer writing and communicating with other agencies and media to keep the public informed and safe.
Sue was an active member at Epiphany Lutheran Church where she served in several leadership roles, as a volunteer, in the church choir, as a regular attendee at Wednesday Bible Study. She also volunteered beyond her neighborhood church and served the synod in various capacities and on the synod council. She was a familiar and friendly face to long time members and new folks in her congregation alike.
Anyone who met Sue knew she had a fondness for words, books, and authors. She was a voracious reader and loud proponent for the public library system. She often was quick to ask what you were reading - and who wrote it - and she loved to share her most recent reads with anyone who would listen. She always had a stack of books waiting to be read and often had a handwritten list of books to read next. Her most recent love of reading could be witnessed in reading aloud to her grandchildren and encouraging them to share their love of words as they learned to read.
A celebration of her life and committal ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Epiphany Lutheran Church located at 4301 Raspe Ave, Baltimore, MD 21206. A luncheon will be held immediately following the services in the Commons Area at the church.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make donations to Epiphany Lutheran Church.
