Oliver "Val" DuVal Purvis, son of Jesse Oliver Purvis Jr. and Clover DuVal Purvis, devoted husband of 40 years to Nell Temple Purvis, brother to Terry L. Purvis and Kitty Clover Roulette (d. 2021), loving stepfather to Stephanie Lee Armiger and Temple Moore and grandfather to Carter and Sylas Moore, passed away on Friday, June 2nd, 2023 at Orchard Hill Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Towson, Maryland. Val was born July 31st, 1940 in Baltimore and grew up in the Homeland area. He graduated from Severn High School in 1960 and attended Randolph Macon College. Val worked at Maryland National Bank in downtown Baltimore and went on to work for 38 years at Kopflex Inc. in Linthicum Heights Maryland as a computer programmer.
Val had many hobbies and passions. As a young man he was very active member of the Towson JC's and loved working on car engines. Later in life, Val began his adventures on his Honda Goldwing motorcycle, traveling across the country visiting the Grand Canyon and never forgetting to mention his stop at the Coors Brewery in Golden Colorado for a "taste test". Val had a large model train set-up that was a holiday treat for family, friends and neighbors. He had a successful rubber stamp business and became a ham radio operator enjoying communicating with other operators all over the world. Val was a skilled tailor, sewing shirts, Oriole and Raven pillows and monogrammed, down-filled robes for family members. Val always believed in helping others and over the years donated numerous gallons of blood to The American Red Cross. In his later years he thoroughly enjoyed creating 3-D Diamond Bead Paintings, creating over 50 works while his rescue dog Charlie sat at his feet.
We know he would want to thank the dedicated team at Orchard Hill for their exceptional care during the last year of his life. Val will be greatly missed. Services are private. Memorial donations can be made in his name to The American Red Cross .
