Obituary

On August 10, 2025; Vassar "Billie" Townsend Conkling, age 98, died of natural causes in her sleep at Blakehurst Retirement Community. Cherished wife of the late William H. Conkling, Sr., devoted mother of William H. Conkling and his wife Elizabeth (Susie) and Charles T. Conkling and his wife Elizabeth (Lisa), beloved grandmother of 6 and great-grandmother of 6.

Billie was a devout Episcopalian and was the first woman senior warden of Old St. Pauls Church, which was established in 1692. She was a trustee for both The St. Pauls School for Boys & Girls and The Baltimore Museum of Art-American Wing and a member of The Colonial Dames of America and Mt. Vernon Club.

Billie was the owner of "Billie Conkling Needlepoint" where she taught and sold uniquely designed needlework including ecclesiastical needlework for churches and cathedrals throughout the United States, including the National Cathedral in Washington DC. She also was an avid bridge player throughout her life.
