Vera May
Richardson
d. Mar 15, 2024
In loving memory of Vera May Richardson (Angelo), born on August 23, 1944, in Vestal, New York, and departed from this world on March 15, 2024 in Baltimore, Maryland at the age of 79 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's disease. Vera was a compassionate soul, a dedicated mother, and a beloved grandmother. She is the daughter of Louis "Pop" and Annabell Angelo and is survived by her siblings Mary (Jerry) Hill, Paul Angelo, Harold (Lucy) Angelo, and niece Debra McCoy. She was preceded in death by her siblings George Angelo, Rose LaZenka, Lewis Angelo, Leon "Jake" Angelo, and Louise Moyer.
A proud graduate of Vestal High School in 1963, Vera embarked on a journey of service and compassion. In the mid 1960s she joined Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), leading her to Baltimore, Maryland which she made her home and where she raised her children. Vera retired from Associated Administrators after working as a medical claims adjuster and customer service representative. She loved her adopted city of Baltimore, the Ravens, and especially the Orioles. Throughout her life, Vera's unwavering faith as a devout Christian guided her actions and decisions. She was a member of St Peter Claver Catholic Church, then Rock City Church, and finally attended Life Source Church.
Vera's heart overflowed with kindness, evident in her commitment to visiting residents at local nursing homes, she cared for children at the children's church nursery, and organized and ran an AIDS ministry providing comfort to those affected by the AIDS pandemic in the 1980s. Her selfless acts of love touched the lives of many, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion and empathy.
Diagnosed with Alzheimer's almost a decade ago, Vera faced adversity with grace and resilience. Despite the challenges, her love for her three children, Alexander Richardson (Tracy), Adrienne Richardson, and Autumn Richardson, and her five grandchildren, Alexandra Richardson, Alannah Richardson, Christian Barnes, Cameron Barnes, and Faith Stevens, remained a source of strength and inspiration.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She had a very special bond with her sister, Mary, and through their relationship showed their respective families the joys of sisterhood by being the best of friends.
Vera's devotion to her family was immeasurable. She reveled in attending the sporting events of her grandchildren, cheering them on with a heart full of pride. Her nurturing spirit, sense of humor, and boundless love created indelible memories for all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we bid farewell to Vera Richardson, we remember not only the sorrow of her passing but also the joy and love she shared throughout her remarkable life. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her legacy of kindness and service continue to inspire us all.
Vera's family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Center, 2325 York Rd.
