Obituary

William H. Landon, age 90, of Parkville, Maryland, passed peacefully on July 6, 2021 surrounded by family.

Bill grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He joined the US Navy as a medical corpsman following High School graduation and in 1952, married the love of his life, Lillian Hope Wimbish, prior to his first deployment.

Following his Naval service, Bill began what became a 40-year career in the insurance industry. Eventually settling in Ruxton, Maryland where he and Hope raised four exceptional daughters, Bill eventually retired as President of Tidewater Insurance Agency in 1992. He and Hope would relocate first to Key Largo and then to Bradenton, Florida, where they happily spent the next 24 years, playing golf and tennis, fishing and playing cards with family and their many friends from near and far. In 2018 they returned to Baltimore, "where it all began".

Bill derived great joy from giving back. His lifelong love of sports fueled his involvement in countless philanthropic endeavors. Of particular note was his sponsorship of young athletes and particular passion for organizing golf and tennis tournaments benefiting local hospitals and charities. Notably, research for Leukemia was a cause close to his heart, having lost a sister to the disease at age 17.
Bill is survived by his wife, Lillian Hope, four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda, Debbie and Bob, Holly and Jim and Kim and John, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, his brothers John and Ron and sister, Marian. Bill is predeceased by his parents, Norman and Amanda, brother Jim, sister Jeanie and son-in-law Norman.

In lieu of flowers please donate in his name to your favorite charity or organization or to Gilchrist Hospice, the angels and caring professionals that have been here for him and our family during his final days.

A celebration of his life will be held at Oak Crest Chapel in Parkville, on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
