Obituary

On October 16, 2025, William "Lips" Henry Maupai of Timonium, Maryland, aged 100, passed away peacefully. Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Henry and Anna (nee Edling) Maupai on July 17, 1925. Beloved husband for 68 years of the late Lillian S. (nee Schuhart) Maupai; devoted father of Diane Maupai and her husband Thomas Harrington and the late Donald Maupai; dear brother of the late Donald Maupai; loving grandfather of Colleen Hoppa and her husband Chad and Megan Harrington; loving great grandfather of Tessa Hoppa. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Lois Devoe.

Lips lived his 100 years to the fullest.

He served in the Air Force in World War Il, was an ironworker on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and started a foundry with 2 partners.

He was an avid boater, cruising, fishing, and winning navigation contests on his boat the Dondi.

After selling his business, he biked the US, Canada, Italy, Iceland, the Netherlands, and France. He also played softball, volleyball, tennis, and pickle ball until late in life.

After moving to Mercy Ridge, he organized pool and pinochle games, and helped keep local restaurants in business.

He achieved his goal of wearing out, not rusting out.

A celebration of life with family and friends will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association .
